Spiritual, mental and physical wellbeing at the forefront of Kolbe event

18 June 2024

Kolbe Catholic College recently celebrated Wellbeing Week with a packed schedule of activities designed to nurture student and staff’s mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

Throughout the week, the College emphasised the Five Ways to Wellbeing: Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning, and Give.

With the help of Kolbe’s Year 12 Wellbeing Captain,

Ava, the daily activities were designed around these principles, encouraging students to learn more about how they can be proactive in improving their wellbeing.

Connecting with peers during group activities, staying active through sports and dance, taking notice of the present moment in mindfulness sessions and a Kolbe scavenger hunt, learning new skills at science demonstrations, and giving back through acts of kindness all contributed to a holistic approach to wellbeing.

“Wellbeing week is a time where our College comes together to focus on the mental, emotional and physical health of those in our community. This year we had several different activities throughout the week which allowed people to focus on what wellbeing means to them. It was lovely to see our school thrive and embrace the importance of wellbeing,” Ava said.

“I really liked learning about wellbeing and how to look after myself. I think there were some handy tips on how to feel and act better,” added Connor.

Head of Wellbeing at Kolbe Catholic College, Jenefer Wiltschut said:

“Wellbeing is crucial for students as it significantly impacts their mental health, academic performance, physical health, social skills, emotional development, and capacity to flourish.

“Wellbeing activities enhance social interactions, foster a sense of community, and help students develop the skills necessary to tackle the ups and downs of adolescent life.

“Establishing these habits early sets the foundation for lifelong health and success, creating a positive and enriching environment where students can thrive.

“Wellbeing Week was a resounding success, leaving our community inspired to prioritise their health and happiness. By integrating these practices into our daily lives, we can continue to foster a supportive and thriving school community and ensure everyone is feeling their best.”
