Candidate visit to St John Bosco College highlights Every Child Counts campaign

08 March 2021

In the final weeks before the WA State Election, Liberal candidate for Jandakot Mihael McCoy and Liberal Deputy Leader and Shadow Minister for Transport Libby Mettam chose St John Bosco College in Piara Waters to announce proposed road safety funding for the area, highlighting the importance of Catholic education for the local community and the relevance of CEWA’s Every Child Counts engagement campaign.

CEWA’s campaign has sought to raise awareness and drive engagement with MPs, candidates and community stakeholders in the lead up to the election, highlighting the need for equitable funding, particularly for COVID-recovery, mental health and wellbeing resourcing, and capital development.

Mr McCoy used the visit to announce major road construction and upgrades intended to alleviate traffic congestion and improve student safety around St John Bosco College, proposed projects that had been added to Mr McCoy’s platform after discussions with the College leadership and community.

CEWA Director Finance and Infrastructure, Dr Glennda Scully, joined the visit to the school and welcomed the announcement.

We welcome today’s commitment to this new road and community safety investment by Mr McCoy and the Liberal Party,” Dr Scully said.

The safety of our children on the roads, getting to and from school is as important as their wellbeing at school – this is the kind of investment that will be appreciated by parents, families and staff,

Up until the election and beyond we will continue to engage the public on our Every Child Counts campaign, while seeking to work with the incoming State government and all stakeholders to secure fairer funding for our school communities,

We look forward to continuing the conversation on equitable, sustainable, long term funding agreements for psychology and mental health, for capital development and for COVID relief funds,” Dr Scully said.
