Catholic school students make great strides in Minister’s Running Challenge

Good Shepherd Catholic School – Lockridge has had great success in the 2024 Education Minister’s Running Challenge, becoming the Primary School Champs and taking away the $2,500 prize.

The annual challenge encourages students to engage in physical activity and develop a healthy and active lifestyle to enhance their mental health and learning.

Xavier, Year 2 said:

“You get to run and try your best. Aiming for the 100 club was lots of fun. I did running club before school and even ran on holiday in Greece.”

Caesar, Year 4 added:

“It gave me a challenge and made me run a lot more than usual. I ran at running club and around the park with my family. I’m looking forward to the MRC next year.”

Essbe Year 6 said:

“The MRC gave me the opportunity to work on and track my fitness. I ran at home and as part of my soccer training sessions. I’ll take part in high school next year.”

Teacher, Olly Blatchford said:

“The MRC was awesome because our whole school community could get involved and get active.

“Our students were able to log their minutes from our school running club and get moving with their families outside of school. Also, over 20 of our staff signed up and got involved. It was a real community effort!”

A number of Catholic school students were part of the ‘100 Club’, comprising the top 100 student runners, walkers, or wheelers from the challenge each year:

  • David, St Cecilia’s Catholic Primary School
  • Mary, St Cecilia’s Catholic Primary School
  • Caesar, Good Shepherd Catholic School – Lockridge
