26 February 2019

Former Victorian Senator Jacinta Collins was recently appointed as the Executive Director of the National Catholic Education Commission.

CEWA Executive Director Debra Sayce said Ms Collins had served in Parliament across a variety of roles providing her with a unique and deep understanding of Australia’s education sector.

“Ms Collins is committed to ensuring all children have access to quality education and development opportunities,” Dr Sayce said.

Catholic Education Western Australia congratulates her on this appointment, and look forward to working with her to strengthen and enrich Catholic education in our State and nationally.”

In an introductory statement from the NCEC, Ms Collins said she was looking forward to her new role as a champion for the needs of Catholic schools, which educate one in every five Australian students.

“Australia’s school system is unique with its mix of government, Catholic and independent schools and I believe that parents should have the choice about which school is best for their child,” she said.

“In Parliament, I was a strong advocate for fair funding for all schools and I will continue to be a strong voice for the needs of Catholic schools, teachers and students.”

Dr Sayce also thanked outgoing Acting Executive Director Ray Collins (no relation) for coming out of retirement to lead the NCEC during the past year.
