Sleeping rough to raise funds for homeless

07 June 2019

Students from Xavier Catholic School in Hilbert swapped their beds for cardboard boxes recently for their annual Homeless SleepOut

The SleepOut raises awareness and much needed funds for LifeLink, the Perth Archdiocese’ welfare fundraising organisation.

Assistant Principal Giselle Konle said the aim was to improve students’ awareness of what it must feel like to be homeless.

Students had a simple meal of rice for dinner, and prepared care packages and pasta to send to ShopFront, one of LifeLink’s agencies.

“The children wrote prayers that were attached to the care packages to let people less fortunate than themselves know that someone, somewhere was thinking of them,” Ms Konle said.

Students asked family and friends to sponsor them, and in total raised $500.

The school put together a video of their experiences…
