Students at Catholic Education Western Australia schools performed strongly in this year’s NAPLAN testing, showing improvements in most domains, across all year levels.

CEWA’s Year 3 results, in particular, stood out as a highlight of NAPLAN for 2015/2016, with improvements shown in every domain assessed.

Dr Tim McDonald, CEWA Executive Director, said the results were evidence that CEWA’s commitment to engaging, student-centred teaching and learning was translating into improved student achievement.

“While NAPLAN is just one tool that we can use to assess where our education system is excelling, and what domains we need to focus on improving, it is very encouraging to see that our schools are supporting students to develop the important knowledge and skills that NAPLAN tests,

“CEWA is putting a lot of emphasis on the early years, and we are focussed on working with families to provide children with a strong early foundation for their ongoing education. We understand that these early years are vital, and I am exceptionally happy that the Year 3 NAPLAN results were so positive this year,” he said.

From 2008 (when NAPLAN began) through to 2016, CEWA has had a consistently higher percentage of students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 achieving at or above the National Minimum Standard in all domains, compared to the National and WA cohorts.

CEWA is committed to data-informed decision making and improvement, and analysis of NAPLAN results contributes to this.
