 Meet the Executive Director

Dr Debra Sayce

Executive Director

Dr Debra Sayce is the Executive Director of Catholic Education WA. In a career in education, that has spanned 37 years, Debra has taught in both independent and Catholic secondary school environments before taking up school and system leadership positions in Catholic education.

Debra is passionate and committed to the goals of Catholic education and the aspirational goals of the Alice Springs Declaration and seeks to realise these goals in Catholic schools. As the leader of a system of Catholic schools, she strongly promotes excellence and equity in all aspects of a student’s school journey and seeks to ensure that CEWA is affordable and accessible to parents who choose Catholic schooling for their child from Wyndham to Esperance and everywhere in between.

Debra holds a doctorate in education, is a published author, and has lectured in post-graduate educational units at the University of Notre Dame Australia. She serves on several national boards and committees including the National Catholic Education Commission and Catholic Network Australia. Since her appointment as Executive Director five years ago, Debra has steadfastly focused on the continued improvement of the education and flourishing of children and young people and the development of the workforce who educate and form these students.

To bring out the very best in students, enabling them to be confident, creative, lifelong learners and strongly community minded. Debra works with system leadership teams in schools and offices to be clear on the vision of Catholic education. She is highly collaborative in her approach and in all that she does in her leadership, she seeks to be Christ-centred and child focused.
