Bunbury Catholic College Year 10 students recently had the opportunity to speak directly with industry professionals in their fields of interest at the Futures’ Breakfast held at the College’s Marist campus. 

The event was the first of its kind for the College and brought 20 professionals from diverse fields to speak with students over breakfast and included two keynote speakers who shared their personal journeys. 

Several guests were past Bunbury Catholic College students, adding an extra relevance to the conversations. 

 “Ensuring our students’ needs are met is paramount to us, particularly at this stage when they begin the task of selecting subjects for future career pathways,” College Head of Year 10, Mrs Sharon Doyle, said. 

“Students are in a transition phase, entering young adulthood, and the College saw this forum as a good opportunity to acknowledge this, especially as they begin their subject selections for 2020.  

“Students nominated potential career pathways of interest before the breakfast, which allowed for the seating plan to reflect career interests, which will guide staff, as they begin the subject counselling process for Year 11, 2020.” 

The response from the professional community was overwhelming, with participants commenting on the students’ enthusiasm during small group discussions, their attentiveness to keynote speakers and the maturity demonstrated throughout the morning.  

Presenters said they found the breakfast to be an enriching experience and would welcome the opportunity to be involved again next year.  

Bunbury Catholic College also hosts the annual South West Careers Expo, which is attended by approximately 1400 students from the region.
