Catholic Arts: what is happening for 2020?
05 June 2020
Just as CEWA schools and colleges have had to think outside the box and make some changes for exhibitions and performances in 2020, the Catholic Arts team have been working to rethink their program of events in the time of COVID-19.
Carnevale, the performing arts showcase usually held in a public setting, will not be held in 2020, however the format of the Angelico Exhibition and the Performing Arts Festival for Catholic Schools and Colleges has been adjusted to allow them to go ahead safely.
The 2020 Angelico Exhibition will take the form of a 3D virtual tour, professionally produced and made available for schools to share with their communities. Closing dates for entries are Friday, 3 July for Primary students, and Friday, 31 July for Secondary students.
No live events will be included in the Performing Arts Festival this year, rather students will be able to enter by recording their performances, giving them the opportunity to participate despite the fact that they have had limited ability to rehearse at school. The Catholic Arts team will be providing further direction and advice regarding recording entries to all schools participating.
Acknowledging these limitations, this year’s Festival will emphasise participation, with no Shields or Awards presented, though adjudicators will still provide comments.
The Performing Arts Festival will not include an opening Mass this year, however it will conclude with a Liturgy of the Word, scheduled to be held at St Mary’s Cathedral on Thursday, 17 September.
Entry fees for both the Angelico Exhibition and Performing Arts Festival have been waived for 2020. The closing date for entry is Monday, 15 June, with receipt of music scores due by Friday, 21 August, and receipt of recordings due by Friday, 21 August.
Catholic Arts provides opportunities to offer students hope and joy within the Arts, in a spirit of participation and celebration, and the team look forward to a great Angelico Exhibition and Performing Arts Festival for 2020.
