Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA) Deputy Executive Director, Peter Yensch, today congratulated thousands of students on achieving a WACE (Western Australian Certificate of Education) in 2019.

Mr Yensch said the 2019 cohort of Year 12 students could be proud of reaching an important milestone, and all they had achieved in their time at school.

“Well done to all of the students at Catholic schools and colleges who have completed Year 12 this year – getting to this point has shown a real commitment to your learning and development at school, and I hope you have built lasting friendships along the way,” he said.

Mr Yensch also congratulated the 17 CEWA students whose achievements were recognised with School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) General Exhibition, Subject Exhibition and VET (Vocational Education and Training) Exhibition awards.

“It is great to see our Catholic education system supporting students to achieve excellent learning outcomes year to year, with many students achieving an ATAR of 95 or higher for 2019, and thousands attaining VET qualifications,” Mr Yensch said.

“We are really proud of all that our students across the State have achieved this year, particularly those who have finished their time at school and now look forward to the future,”

“I am excited to see what our class of 2019 set out to achieve for 2020 and beyond, as they begin further learning or set out on their chosen careers or working on their own personal goals. For now, I wish them all a well-deserved and safe end-of-year break,”

On behalf of CEWA, Mr Yensch congratulated the following students who have been recognised for achieving the highest marks in WA.

General Exhibition Awards (awarded to eligible students who obtain the 50 highest WACE scores)

• Blake Botica from Bunbury Catholic College
• Gary Zheng from Chisholm Catholic College
• Brett Nigli from Corpus Christi College
• Philippa Newman from Iona Presentation College
• Alexandra Prichard from Iona Presentation College
• Jennifer Lin from Santa Maria College

General Exhibition ATSI (awarded to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student who achieves the highest WACE award score among those students eligible for this award)

• Ellen Engelke from Iona Presentation College

Subject Exhibition Awards (awarded to the eligible student who obtains the highest examination mark for each Year 12 ATAR course)

• Mitchell Crook from Aquinas College for Geography
• Corey Sellars from Aquinas College for Physical Education Studies
• Gary Zheng from Chisholm Catholic College for Mathematics Methods
• Alexandra Prichard from Iona Presentation College for Religion and Life
• Eloise Budimlich from John XXIII College for Drama
• Faith McKay from Mater Dei College for Children, Family and the Community
• Grace Starcevich from Mercedes College for Design
• Nicholas Beaman from Sacred Heart College for Outdoor Education

VET Exhibition Award (awarded to the eligible student who has demonstrated the most outstanding performance in an AQF VET Certificate II or higher)

• Patrick Lorraine from Aquinas College for Construction Industries
• Morgan Mullins from Mandurah Catholic College for Retail and Personal Services
• Liam Brnic from Mater Dei College for Tourism, Hospitality and Events
• Kadijah Brown from St Norbert College for Business and Financial Services; Information and Communications Technology

Gary Zheng from Chisholm Catholic College, who earned a General Exhibition Award and a Subject Exhibition Award along with a number of other certificates, was also one of 15 students across the State to achieve the highest possible ATAR of 99.95.

Mr Yensch also acknowledged hundreds of CEWA students who were honoured with Subject Certificates of Excellence, VET Certificates of Excellence, Certificates of Distinction, and Certificates of Merit.

“Our students deserve to be congratulated on their hard work and commitment this year, along with their families, educators and school communities who have supported and encouraged them in their learning,” he said.
