Dr Debra Sayce begins new role as Acting Executive Director

19 October 2017

I am pleased to share news of my appointment to the role of acting Executive Director of Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA), until the end of 2018.

In considering the future direction of Catholic Education, it is my intention that over the next 14 months, with the support of the Executive team, we will focus on our central mission and purpose as a Catholic learning community. I assure you that there is no intention to press a pause button on our transformation journey.  Change is a constant and it is required. However, there is acknowledgement that now is a time to seek ways to slow the pace of change.  As such, I intend to reflect on all existing areas of success, seek broad counsel on what needs to change, and work closely with the Bishops of Western Australia and the Catholic Education Commission of Western Australia as they establish a new strategic direction for Catholic Education.

Over the past five years Dr Tim McDonald has demonstrated an unwavering focus on the teaching and learning that takes place in our system, and his passion and commitment has driven innovative reform right across Catholic Education. His leadership has ensured that Catholic Education Western Australia is well placed to meet the future challenges of education.

I feel a deep sense of honour to have been given the opportunity to lead Catholic Education at this time, and look forward to beginning this new chapter for Catholic Education Western Australia with our schools and communities right across Australia.

Warm regards

Dr Debra Sayce
