Members of the Prendiville Catholic College community gathered on Friday, 5 March, to break the ground and hold a smoking ceremony for the College’s new Good Shepherd Centre. 

The Good Shepherd Centre will be the newest addition to meet the expanding needs of the College and will function as an exhibition and community centre, to be shared with the wider community, parish and neighbouring St Simon Peter Catholic Primary School. 

Noongar Elder and friend of the College, Mrs Robyn Collard, conducted a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony, with Aboriginal students from the College playing didgeridoo, before Principal Mark Antulov, students, parents and guests broke the ground where the new centre will be built. 

“Inspired by the story of the Good Shepherd, the building will be a place of welcome, personalised learning and community gathering that proudly reflects the richness of Aboriginal heritage and Catholic tradition,” said Mr Antulov. 

Architectural design, artworks, furnishings and landscaping will be influenced by both the history and culture of Noongar people in the area, as well as the Catholic inspiration of the story of the Good Shepherd. 

Students and staff of the College will also have opportunities to contribute to the design and stunning glasswork, sculptures and artwork that will bring these stories to life throughout the building and its surrounds. 

The construction of the Good Shepherd Centre will shift administration from the middle of the campus to the perimeter to create a more child-safe and secure campus.
