“Digital tools are used in classrooms across the College to enhance teaching and learning and provide students with an even broader range of classroom experiences.

“Our MIEExperts are innovative technology leaders and their involvement with Microsoft has allowed them to drive their own professional development, while also providing support and training to other staff and students, leading to improved student outcomes and increased staff well-being.”

Among the standards and requirements needed to be a MIEExpert are possessing the knowledge of digital inking with a stylus combing the power of digital tools with handwriting and co-creation of knowledge, building and using escape rooms to help with inquiry learning and group work. MIEExpert’s also require a sound knowledge in Microsoft Make Code Arcade and PowerPoint to demonstrate the design process and showcase problem solving skills and the use of search coach and progress to enhance the teaching and learning of research skills.

The process of becoming an MIEExpert takes place at the end of Term Two each year. It involves completing four Microsoft Learn courses (Microsoft Educator Academy, Master Microsoft Teams for any Learning Environment, 21st Century Learning Design and AI for Educators), submitting a self-nomination form, and a piece of learning evidence that showcases how they use Microsoft tools in the classroom. The MIEExperts are then selected by a panel of experts based on their submissions. They are awarded Credly accreditations and invited to join state, national and international network calls to share and learn from a wide range of educators.

MIEExperts for 2023/2024 include, from Seton Catholic College; Alana Lawrence, Alistair White, Camlin Quin, Cassie Naden, Catherine Jack, Grant Watton, Michael Brook, Owen Neal. Michael Chiera from Sacred Heart College, Kylie Kingdon CEWA (ViSN), Peggy Fitzgerald, CEWA (ViSN) and Selina Murphy, ViSN Teacher.

The team acknowledged Kylie Kingdon, who has been renewed as an MIEE Fellow – the highest level of recognition. The Fellows are members who are asked to nominate with the support of Microsoft staff to lead the MIEExpert networks. Kylie was the first MIEExpert Fellow for Western Australia and has worked to increase the profile of the program around the state.
