South West Career Expo returns to Bunbury Catholic College in 2023

Interactive displays were a highlight of the South West Career Expo which made a triumphant return to the Bunbury Catholic College Sports Centre on Wednesday 17 May 2023.

Approximately 2000 students considering their future career paths attended the Expo where displays with virtual reality headsets and aviation flight simulators proved to be popular and a vertical leap fitness test attracted the attention of teenagers.

Busloads of students arrived during the day from high schools in Bunbury, the surrounding districts, including Our Lady of Mercy in Australind, and as far away as Collie, Cape Naturaliste, and Pemberton.

Year 11 student Marcus Fornal is learning how to weld and had the chance to speak with defence forces personnel at the Expo.

“I asked what it was like in the Navy and ‘How did they know that they wanted to go into the Navy?’” Marcus said.

Another student explained that everyone is intrigued to see what experiences could lie ahead after high school.

VET Coordinator Michael Downes was pleased to welcome the exhibitors on 53 displays as well as so many students and community members to the College after last year when COVID-19 limited the Expo to a virtual event.

“The opportunity to make connections with people working in areas of interest is a real benefit for these students who are looking for a career pathway,” he said.
