St Thomas Primary School in Claremont celebrated 110 years last month, with the school community and guests reflecting on their rich tradition since being founded by the Presentation Sisters.

The day began with a Mass at St Thomas Church that acknowledged the milestone along with the Feast of St Thomas the Apostle and the dedication of the Presentation Sisters, attended by Presentation Sisters, students, school families and staff, parishioners and guests.

Following Mass and morning tea a new artwork was unveiled in the school’s Junior Primary area.

The work, created by renowned WA artist Clare McFarlane, represents the connection between the school and parish.

This painting was not the only art to feature in the celebrations, with an impressive collection of art on display for guests, including a painting by St Thomas Art Teacher, Kate Byrne, depicting the historical journey of the school.

The Presentation Sisters came from Kildare, Ireland, arriving in Cottesloe in 1905, before establishing the school in 1909 in the tradition of Catholic education pioneer Nano Nagle, whose commitment to compassion and service continues to inspire the school community today.

The anniversary celebrations continued throughout the day with traditional games including hopscotch and marbles, arts and crafts, bouncy castle, and a lunch time sausage sizzle generously funded by the Parish.

A flash mob dance at the end of the school day left everyone in good spirits.
