WA Australian of the Year to join Kaartdijin Day 2018

24 August 2018

Kaartdijin means knowledge in Noongar language.

CEWA’s Kaartdijin Day 2018 will coincide with Indigenous Literacy Day, and in keeping with this year’s NAIDOC theme, ‘Because of Her, We Can’, the CEWA Aboriginal Education Team is proud to present a Round Table with Dr Tracy Westerman, WA Australian of the Year 2018.

Dr Tracy Westerman is a proud Njamal woman from the Pilbara region, and was recently named 2018 WA Australian of the Year and inducted into the WA Women’s Hall of Fame. She is recognised as a leader in Aboriginal mental health, cultural competence and suicide prevention, achieving national and international recognition for her work.

She will present a 30-40 minute talk on being an Aboriginal woman, and how this has shaped her work, both professionally and in the Aboriginal community.

Where: Catholic Education Centre, Leederville

When: Friday, 7 September 2018, 10am-11am (followed by morning tea)

This event is open to all CEWA staff members and guests.
