The Tweeting Galah by Kim Maslin
Teacher and Digital Learning Coordinator at Our Lady Star of the Sea, Kim Maslin, recently self-published an illustrated children’s book, The Tweeting Galah. The book intends to help both schools and families address cybersafety issues that come with social media and online gaming.
Kim’s personal experiences in the classroom, her discussions with parents and research have all informed a collection of short stories that tackle issues of cyberbullying, online predators, posting inappropriate content and too much screen time. The book’s interactive learning activities and quirky Australian animal characters add to the appeal for children – providing an entertaining read as well as educating them on very important cybersafety issues.
To further support schools in using the book to address these issues in the classroom, Kim created accompanying lesson plans and teacher factsheets which she hopes will prove to be valuable resources for teachers.
It is wonderful to see our teachers’ passion for educating our students reflected in extracurricular work!

On the way to Nana’s by Frances Haji-Ali
Sacred Heart principal Frances Haji-Ali joined with Lindsay Haji-Ali and illustrator David Hardy, to create a spectacular counting book aimed at helping primary school children grasp the challenge of counting backwards. The book uses beautiful imagery from the far north Kimberley region of Western Australia, to take readers on a journey of counting backwards from fifteen to one.
