In an event that has been met with resounding success, Aboriginal elders, speakers from across Australia and indigenous guests came together to share in Clontarf Aboriginal College’s inaugural Religious Education (RE) Week from 6 to 9 June.

The College’s Head of Religious Education and Campus Ministry, Salvatore De Luca, organised the event with the aim of connecting religious education with Aboriginal spirituality and culture.

Principal Troy Hayter, said “For us, it means celebrating our Catholic faith and also our knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal spirituality of our students and how much the two intertwine. It’s who we are at Clontarf.”

Students experienced a week filled with games, competitions and educational speakers from religious, cultural, musical, sporting and educational backgrounds, including Aboriginal Hip Hop artist Ziggy Ramo and basketball star Shawn Redhage.

The event was a great success, with students speaking of how it has changed the way they think about religious education and helped them understand the link between faith and Aboriginal spirituality.

With such positive feedback on the first RE Week, Mr De Luca and the College community look forward to making RE Week an annual event at Clontarf.
