Santa Clara School celebrates NAIDOC Week
21 July 2017
NAIDOC Week is held across the country each July, with many community groups taking it as an opportunity to celebrate the history and culture of Aboriginal peoples.
Catholic schools across the CEWA system get involved in NAIDOC Week each year with activities for students and staff, despite the Week usually falling during the holidays.
Santa Clara School in St James is one of many Catholic schools which marks NAIDOC Week as a significant event in their calendar, and celebrated the 2017 theme ‘Our Languages Matter’ before the school holiday break.
The School began their NAIDOC Week assembly with a Welcome to Country in Wadjuk Noongar language by Brett Collard, grandfather of a Santa Clara student and member of the local Noongar community.
Wesley College’s Moorditj Mob visited later in the day to run a dance workshop for the whole school, with the program of events rounded out by a football workshop with players from Perth Football Club.
