Treasure by name, treasure by nature: St Norbert College celebrates the achievements of its alumni

01 September 2022

Given its location in Treasure Road, Queens Park, St Norbert College has long been referred to as the “hidden gem in Treasure Road’’.

And now Australia’s only Norbertine-owned and operated school is unearthing treasures and gems from decades past.

Drama teacher Kerri Hilton, who has taught at the college for more than 35 years, has embarked on an ambitious project to highlight the achievements of its alumni through a collection of audio interviews.

Miss Hilton has been tracking down and interviewing former students from the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s for the audio series, The Treasure Trove – St Norbert College Ex-Students’ Stories.

Alumni who have taken part include iScotch College Principal, Dr Alec O’Connell, television journalist Gabriella Rossitto, radio broadcaster, Pete Curulli and Catholic educator Aaron McGoorty (pictured) whose link to the Norbertines stretches back three generations.

“Their career paths have been varied, and it is so lovely to see so many people from the college making such valuable contributions to society.”

“The common theme that has shone through the interviews is the feeling of community that all of these students had at the college and afterwards,’’ Miss Hilton said.

“So many of the students still have close friendships with their school friends.

“Their career paths have been varied and it is so lovely to see so many people from the college making such valuable contributions to society,” she said.

“It definitely shows how an education here has shaped and moulded these students to be people who have a firm belief in community and in themselves, and in the value of helping others.’’

So far, Miss Hilton has completed more than 20 interviews and you can listen to them by visiting The Treasure Trove – St Norbert College Ex-Students’ Stories https://www.norbert.wa.edu.au/the-treasure-trove-ex-students-stories/
