St Joseph’s Bunbury students provide alternative to plastic

03 August 2017

Year 5 students of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Bunbury recently got hands-on to tackle plastic waste.

After learning about the negative environmental impact of plastic bags in Term 2, the students embraced the challenge of finding a way to contribute to the solution.

The students researched a range of plastic bag alternatives before settling on Boomerang Bags – fabric bags made to be left at stores, where shoppers can use them instead of plastic and return them later.

The students, along with a team of mothers and grandmothers, sewed more than 60 Boomerang Bags using donated fabric, to be distributed to local shops for customers to use.
