Island trip rewarded to Holy Rosary’s ‘best attendees’

Students from Holy Rosary School undertook an excursion to Mount Gibson Mining, Koolan Island on Thursday, 3 November.
In a collaboration with Community Police, students in years three to six travelled by plane to the Mount Gibson Mining site. Students toured the mine site and went around the island by ship before having lunch in the Mess Hall.
Year 5 student Daniel said he was excited but a little nervous to board a plane for the first time, while Shaneira in Year 4 said she enjoyed the experience, adding the lunch was ‘ten out of ten’.

Holy Rosary Principal Melanie Resuggan said the partnership with Mount Gibson Mining allowed students to experience activities that would be ‘out of reach’ for remote schooling students.
‘This provides a chance to acknowledge attendance, which is a consistent challenge in remote areas. As this is a new partnership, we look forward to working together to create a unique opportunity for our students over the coming years.
Ms. Resuggan added it was great to be joined by family members of students who work on the island, at various times throughout the day.
