Soccer star Sam Kerr pays Catholic school a surprise visit

Queen of Apostles School students in Riverton were treated to some star-power with world-renowned soccer star Sam Kerr dropping by the school to chat candidly with students ahead Women’s World Cup tournament which begins on 20 July.
Although the surprise appearance was short, the 29-year-old Matildas representative took the time to answer questions from students about her soccer journey.
Ms Kerr cited Olympic gold medalist and former sprinter Cathy Freeman as her inspiration, shared some of her training routines and expressed her appreciation for the travel opportunities that soccer has presented her with, throughout her illustrious career.
On Tuesday, Kerr made another exciting appearance at Karrinyup mall’s Lego store, where she made history as the first-ever Australian to be immortalised as a LEGO figurine.
Indiana, Year 6 said, ‘It was so exciting speaking face-face with an international superstar.’
Jazmine, Year 6 said, ‘Sam took a photo with our whole school. She was so patient with us, even answering questions others had already asked.’
Ekam, Year 5 said, ‘I learned some great facts about her especially when she was younger and she gave us advice on how to play soccer. I felt very special that she came to the school to meet us.’
Samantha, Year 5 said, ‘It was honestly amazing having Sam Kerr come to our school. I witnessed and felt so much joy having her around.’
Principal Mark Ryan said:
‘We are very appreciative that Sam made time to visit our school on Wednesday. With the FIFA Women’s World Cup around the corner, Sam’s generosity in accepting the invitation to visit and answer some of the questions from our students is inspiring. Sam brought a glimpse to our student community of what it takes to be successful – her passion and her humility when responding to our students’ questions was amazing.’
The Chelsea forward authored a five-part book series ‘Kicking Goals’ which offers themes of school, soccer, sport, friendship, dealing with bullies told students also revealed she will be releasing a second book in the coming weeks.
