Corpus students find fun and meaning with prayer

Embracing Religious studies with fun and purpose, Corpus Christi College students spent a day crafting their own rosary bead bracelets that were then used to pray. Two Year Two classes took part in the exercise which was organised in conjunction with the Month of Mary in May.
When asked about their favourite part of the exercise, student Lucy said, ‘I enjoyed making the cross out of clay. The cross is the sign of Jesus and is important because he died for us. I had fun threading the beads and choosing a colour to use.
‘The bracelets help us to pray the Hail Mary, the Our Father and the Glory Be. I can use them whenever I am saying a prayer.’
Student Giovan said, ‘I liked putting the beads on the string and counting 10 beads to remind us to pray the Hail Mary 10 times.
‘To help us remember to care about God and help us pray Hail Mary 10 times so we don’t lose count.’
Class teachers Jessica Vallelonga and Lauren Courtney said the activity catered to the students’ developmental age, allowed them to further develop their fine-motor skills and engage in inquiry-based learning whilst engaging in Religious Education.
‘Incorporating the use of hands-on, concrete materials allowed the Year 2 students to be engaged in the learning activity and experience a strong connection to their Religious Education studies.
‘By providing student autonomy and choice, the activity aimed to ignite their curiosity about God and nurture their individuality.’
Ms Vallelonga added that the activity encouraged students to embrace their faith while having fun.
