Working in regional Western Australia is a humbling and fulfilling experience, says Coby Rhatigan, St Mary’s College Broome Principal.
Coby, who held the role of Head of Primary for several years before taking on the principalship for the past three years, says she is constantly learning, adapting, and growing in her role.
Coby spoke about the value of having more support in St Mary’s and the impact that the teaching staff have on students.
“This year, we welcomed nine teachers to our team with four of these returning teachers brought back by the call of the Kimberley and St Mary’s! We welcomed two new exciting Director roles to our College, which will really assist us in supporting the diversity of our College community.
“We are blessed to have an incredible team of staff with a range of teaching experience. They are supported by our CEWA Office and our incredible team of cultural staff and make a difference every day! It is more than a job, it is a calling to serve and support, an honour to live, learn and work alongside on beautiful Yawuru country.”
Enriched by her personal journey, Coby said her hope for St Mary’s is for every child to receive a quality Catholic education which meets the needs of every student and family.
“We are committed to providing a College which offers a sense of hope and belonging to all of our families with high expectations for every student’s pathway and possibilities.”
The ‘Kimberley experience,’ Coby said, is a unique opportunity that she highly recommends to all educators.
“I cannot recommend the Kimberley experience more highly. I started my teaching journey in the Kimberley and have spent years working in regional settings. I am grateful for the way that I have been accepted, challenged, and become a passionate educator and leader for our Kimberley region, you will be humbled by the experiences.
“Catholic education plays a vital role in Kimberley to ensuring quality Catholic education with a focused pastoral and wellbeing lens.”
