Dr Debra Sayce congratulates Year 12 students on 2017 achievements

Students who completed the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) at Catholic schools across the state in 2017 have demonstrated outstanding learning outcomes and achievements, with many being recognised with School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) awards today.
Three Catholic college students were announced as recipients of General Exhibition awards, which are presented to the 50 top students in the state calculated on WACE scores. Seven Catholic college students also earned Subject Exhibition awards, for achieving the top score for individual areas of study of any student across the state.
On behalf of Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA), Acting Executive Director, Dr Debra Sayce, congratulated the following students on a remarkable achievement:
General Exhibition awards
- Eva Male, Sacred Heart College
- Zoë Sydney, Iona Presentation College
- Jacky Lu, Chisholm Catholic College
Subject Exhibition awards
- Eva Male, Sacred Heart College – Psychology
- Sarah Ciccarelli, Santa Maria College – Applied Information Technology
- Charlotte Kennedy, Mercedes College – Design
- Lily Squire, Santa Maria College – English
- Emily Roberts, Mercedes College – Geography
- Jessica Low, John XXIII College – Religion and Life
- Jade Van Herwaarde, Iona Presentation College – Visual Arts
In addition to these awards, hundreds of Catholic students have been honoured for their efforts with Certificates of Distinction, Certificates of Merit, Subject Certificates of Excellence, and VET Certificates of Excellence awards.
“Those students who have today been acknowledged with General and Subject Exhibition Awards have been recognised as amongst the very highest achieving students in the state, a truly special accomplishment. They, and the many others who have earned certificates of recognition today, have shown amazing resolve and commitment to learning in this achievement,” Dr Sayce said.
“I congratulate these students and their families, teachers, and school communities as they reflect on this wonderful news – they can all be very proud.”
Dr Sayce said that all Catholic school students who achieved a WACE this year deserved full credit for their efforts.
“Catholic schools aim to support young people with the best possible learning environments, however I wish to acknowledge the dedication and effort demonstrated personally by each student who has achieved their personal best in their final year of school,
“Achieving a WACE is a significant milestone. I hope all of those who completed their schooling this year enjoy a well-deserved break over the holiday season,” she said.
