Season of Lent

22 February 2018

Lent is a time of prayer, penance, sacrifice and good works in preparation for the celebration of Easter.

During Lent, Catholics are asked to reflect on their relationship with God by seeking the Lord in prayer and reading scripture, to service by giving alms, and to sacrifice self-control through fasting.

Pope Francis in his 2018 Lenten message says, “Above all, I urge the members of the Church to take up the Lenten journey with enthusiasm, sustained by almsgiving, fasting and prayer. If, at times, the flame of charity seems to die in our own hearts, know that this is never the case in the heart of God! He constantly gives us a chance to begin loving anew.”

The Caritas website has stories videos, teaching materials and activity ideas for schools and parishes during Lent to support Project Compassion and our Lenten journey.
