Cathedral welcome for new Archdiocese educators

07 February 2019

More than 200 new staff members from Catholic schools across the Archdiocese of Perth  were welcomed to CEWA at a special commissioning Mass on Friday, 1 February.

CEWA’s newest educators attended the Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral, celebrated by Archbishop of Perth Timothy Costelloe SDB, Auxiliary Bishop of Perth Donald Sproxton DD and Reverend Father Sean Fernandez.

Education Ministe Sue Ellery also attended, along with members of the Catholic Education Commission of WA, Parents and Friends Federation of WA, more than 100 CEWA principals and hundreds of other Catholic school staff.

As she welcomed the new staff, CEWA Executive Director Dr Debra Sayce reflected on the year ahead.

“Our work as educators is uniquely challenging, but immensely important and rewarding,” she said.

“In 2019, may we continue to strengthen partnerships with our school parents and families, and recognise the God-given potential of everyone in our communities, both students and colleagues.

“We must never lose sight of keeping Christ at the centre of all we do in seeking to give every child or young person the best possible opportunities to learn.”
