St Mary’s Boyup Brook celebrates baptisms during Lent

10 May 2019

The Season of Lent and Easter break were especially significant for the community of St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Boyup Brook this year, with students, former students, and staff members becoming Catholics.

Four students and one former student were welcomed into the Catholic Church on March 23 through the Sacrament of Baptism by Fr Roshan Fernando.

Following the baptism of the students, four members of the staff of St Mary’s became full adult members of the Church during a Holy Saturday vigil at St Brigid’s Church.

Rochelle Gear, St Mary’s music teacher (who also works at St Brigid’s in Bridgetown) Margaret Evans, Science and early childhood teacher, and Deb Corp and Hayley Cook, both education assistants, had all taken part in St Brigid’s Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) program for six months prior to the ceremony.

The Holy Saturday vigil was concelebrated by Fr Roshan Fernando, Parish priest for Brigdetown/Boyup Brook, along with Fr Tony Chiera, Vicar General of the Diocese of Bunbury.
