Year 6 teacher makes coding accessible

23 May 2019

Ben Wynne, a Year 6 teacher at Wanneroo’s St Anthony’s School, hopes to replicate last year’s resounding success at the upcoming 2019 Australian STEM Video Game Challenge.

Last year, a St Anthony’s team of Year 6 girls won the Open Category for Years 5-8 with his supportThree other teams were finalists.

The STEM Video Game Challenge invites Australian students to create their own original, playable video game. It includes designating a mentor to each team, which is usually a teacher.

Students can enter games designed in Scratch, Godot or the Open Category where they can use any other free or free-for-education software.

Mr Wynne is not just involved with mentoring teams directly – he also publishes a vlog with Teacher Magazine aimed at demystifying the process of teaching coding.

He has been invited as a panellist at the PAX Video Game Conference in Melbourne from October 11-13 and has been asked to join a specialist panel at the ACER Conference in August.
