More than 430 CEWA staff attended the Catholic Education Staff Breakfast this week to celebrate the contribution of some of the system’s longest serving employees, as well as the LEAD Awards for Excellence. 

In 2019, 21 CEWA staff celebrated 40 years working in Catholic Education in WA, with 16 present to collect a framed certificate and engraved medallion.

Joining them to be recognised were 50 of 68 staff members who as of 2019 have served Catholic Education and students in the State for 30 years. 

Among those staff celebrating 30 years was Catherine Santarelli from St Brigid’s College in Lesmurdie, who delivered an engaging and insightful reflection. 

Ms Santarelli regaled the audience with stories of camaraderie and spirit from her journey teaching almost every year group across a variety of learning areas.

The Most Reverend Donald Sproxton DD VG Auxiliary Bishop of Perth opened proceedings by saying grace, before a brief address from CEWA Executive Director Dr Debra Sayce reflecting on the role of Catholic Education in WA over generations, and her optimism for the future of the system being reinforced by the work showcased in the LEAD Awards.  

The Honourable Sue Ellery MLC, WA Minister for Education and Training, addressed the audience and presented the LEAD Awards.
