Seton students’ app named best in the country

Seton Catholic College Year 11 students Shannon Griffin and Jack Stapleton are well on their way to successful careers in the tech start–up industry.
The young entrepreneurs were winners in the recent Australian Information Industry Association iAwards held in Melbourne. Shannon and Jack’s app Collective Care won the 2019 Senior Student National iAward.
They designed their app to assist with communication between families, professionals and healthcare businesses involved in the care of elderly loved ones and those with disability.
Mooted as the ‘centre for family communication’, Collective Care offers messaging, calendars, planning, medication reminders and a ‘find a professional carer’ service.
The Seton students won the WAITTA ‘s 2018 Just Start IT trophy, which sent them to the national finals last month.
The Nextvax team from Sacred Heart College also travelled to the iAwards, where they won the Junior PitchFest and received a merit award in the Junior Student category.
Fellow Sacred Heart app Scapers, although not taking out a prize, had considerable interest from Water Corp in their product.
All three teams participated in the 18-week CEWA Entrepreneurship Program, delivered at their schools in partnership with Just Start IT, learning Silicon Valley-inspired practices with industry mentors in the classroom to guide students through the creation of their own tech start–ups.
