Mercedes students get real-world insight into media magic

07 February 2020

Twenty students from Mercedes College returned recently from a week experiencing the excitement of the media industry on the Gold Coast.

The group spent time at Bond University, which has state-of-the art facilities similar to those of working film and television production houses.

The tour consisted of interactive workshops with media professionals who helped students develop their skills in lighting, cinematography and sound.

They also enjoyed visits to MovieWorld and ABC radio studios.

Mercedes’ Media Coordinator Bridgette Stoney said the quality of the workshops was fantastic.

“Having an opportunity to learn from professionals who are currently working on some of the best Australian cinema was a unique and rewarding experience for the girls,” she said.

“Across the week, their skills and their confidence developed, and it will be exciting to see these skills transfer to their work in Media this year.
