Students and staff of St John Bosco College celebrated the Feast Day of St Dominic Savio on 6 May, an occasion which was also chosen to announce the name of the College’s new building. 

To celebrate the day, students from Kindergarten to Year 7, learning at the College and from home, researched St Savio and created posters about his life. 

St Dominic Savio is one of the College’s House Patron’s; he is one of the few teenage saints in the history of the Church, and was a student of St John Bosco known for his dedication to his studies, his loyalty as a friend, the generosity of his service to others and his love of God.

The College’s new Savio Arts and Technology Centre will provide students with opportunities to learn about Design and Technology, and The Arts. 

The Centre will help facilitate learning in Woodwork, Metalwork, Robotics, Engineering, Textiles, Food Production, Digital Technologies, Visual Art, Media Art, Dance, Drama, Music and Italian – learning areas relevant to the story of the young St Savio, whose mother was a tailor and father a metalworker. 

College Principal, Kevin Sheehy, said the College was delighted to name the Centre in St Savio’s honour. 

“St Dominic Savio’s life is a great example for all members of the St John Bosco College Community,” he said. 

“He was a young man whose short life has inspired generations of young people throughout the world to love with an attitude of excellence and service.”
