09 December 2020

A Year Five student from Sacred Heart School in Thornlie was recently crowned the winner in the Primary category of the Modern Language Teachers’ Association of WA’s ‘Let me Tell You a Story’ competition.

Jaslyn, along with a number of other students at the school entered the competition, which required them to create an ebook using original art and/or photography and told a story in two languages. The story needed to be intercultural, meaning that it conveyed ideas and messages in each language about the other language and related culture in the book.

Jaslyn’s winning entry was a story written in English and Punjabi, focused on a cultural celebration in India known as Rakhri.

Jaslyn and her family were invited to an award ceremony at Canning Vale College where she was presented with the award.

Sacred Heart School Assistant Principal, Lisa Ripley said the school was looking forward to publishing Jaslyn’s book for their library.
